Meaty, Nutty Hummus

It’s actually hard to know how to improve upon Hummus.  However, like with everything in Palestine, if you add spiced meat and nuts something ordinary becomes sublime.  If hummus is for every day, then this recipe is for special occasions- a holiday brunch with the family, or festive nibbles with friends.

1 hummus recipe here


the meaty topping

200g mince meat

1 tsp mixed spice

½ tsp cinnamon

¼ tsp nutmeg

1 tbsp pine nuts, toasted

Handful of almonds, toasted

3 good glugs of extra virgin olive oil

Parsley to garnish

salt and pepper to taste



make up the hummus as per the hummus recipe and put in a bowl/ serving dish

fry the meat and spices in the olive oil until well browned and dried off and then season

heap the meat onto the hummus, sprinkle with pine nuts and almonds, add parsley and olive oil

serve with warm bread and kettle chips!
