Maca, Banana & Fig Smoothie

IMG_0733

I love to eat as many figs as u can at this time of year when they are ripe, plentiful and cheap. They always remind me of autumn and they always remind me of my Mama, who also loves them. I remember when I was younger, I would spend hours climbing the large fig tree in our garden on warm summer evenings.

This smoothie makes a great breakfast, its really filling and really healthy, so it will keep you full of energy until lunch time. It tastes delicious, with the maca giving it a lovely malt flavour. I like to add chia seeds to the top of my smoothie to help my body remove toxins and aid digestion.

Figs are an antioxidant, high in vitamin, A, E and K, as well as containing lots of fibre. Bananas are also very good for you with their high levels of potassium helping to reduce blood pressure. Maca powder originates from Peru, and is an amazing natural source of vitamin B, C and E, providing plenty of calcium, zinc, iron, magnesium, phosphorous and amino acids. These nutrients support balancing mood, increasing energy, building red blood cells, supporting a decrease in mood swings and depression.

1 cup almond milk
1 tsp organic maca powder
1tsp organic chia seeds
